Who Are We ?
SAVE MOTORSPORT .COMSo just who exactly are Savemotorsport.com? A bunch of fast learning volunteers, with the community of motorsport at heart! We know, because we are all fans, competitors, helpers, marshals, spectators, mechanics, sponsors and enthusiasts of the internal combustion engine, precisely the sort of strong community feeling that exists within the motorcycle and car racing fraternity (not forgetting truck, kart, lawnmower, hovercraft and scooter racers etc who are all equally welcome) whether on dirt or on tarmac. As the traditional idea of local community evaporates in the towns, villages and streets of a once-Great Britain, this essential social interaction is now being provided, firstly at an increased distance through shared physical activities and secondly closer to home through electronic networking means. For those who have experienced the thrill of motorsport and understand the fundamental need of mankind to prove and improve him/herself through competition where there is an element of danger, requiring an enhanced level of skill, a great degree of commitment, significant investment of time and funds …… here is the new face of kinship. When even this new unity is threatened as it has only just begun, we shall form the wagons into a circle and defend our turf. It’s obvious …. We are competitors at heart and we will not stand by and see our legitimate and socially beneficial activities persecuted. In January 2009, when the fate of Croft circuit was known in respect of the unfavourable High Court judgement, a Facebook group was set up by Kenny Atkinson from Durham to show support. As the group grew to over 10000 members in around 10 short days, the depth of feeling countrywide became obvious. As the membership expanded towards its current level of 17650, it was realised that to harness such collective opinion to useful effect, another vehicle (suitably silenced of course) would be required, hence this website. Please get involved with these good passionate folk. The main protagonists are: Doug Harris — Campaign co-ordinator Where e-mail addresses are provided in the contact section, all of these guys are happy to hear from anyone with ideas, suggestions, information, offers of expertise (and even complaints). The great outdoors is a resource common to us all … and one that should be shared equally by us all. |
